[it's a blessing that some of it is covered up, frankly; his nose is splinted with a thick bandage, a scab arcs across his cheek, his mouth is split at both corners, and his visible eye and left side of his jaw are ringed with a vicious purplegreen -- somebody's beat the everloving shit out of this kid's face]

[Tromp tromp tromp. As soon as Badou knocks on the door Gau is there to answer it. Apparently he'd been waiting by it so that Badou wouldn't have to keep knocking and thus wake up the other members of his household, as evidenced by the weary way he rubs his eyes as he opens the door.]

Badou-san, it's 3'o clock in the morning! Can you please-

[When he finally opens his eyes and the door all the way, they go wide wide and for once, Gau is left speechless at the too-familiar sight of Badou before him.]

[of course, the boy doesn't give a single explanation or thought to his nightmarish appearance, only responds with a short;]

[He doesn't move from the spot, Gau Meguro yields for no one when something is Wrong.

It shouldn't be so significant, but with how carefully he was taking everything out there was no way he would have dropped something unless it was by mistake, or by reflex. A reflex, incidentally, caused by shock he shouldn't be showing.

As if to cover for his telling mistake, he immediately picks up the spool and doesn't turn around as he speaks.]

He is very strange, isn't he?

[To his immediate relief, he realized he never told Badou that they were from the same world- and hopefully Miharu hadn't mentioned it either.

He could play the "just housemates" card until he had a Talk with Miharu about confidentiality.]

Maybe in his world such people exist!

[Badou is a keen observer, but not so keen that he'd pick up on such a soft clatter, while he's busying pouring himself some cream soda]

[by the time he's back in the living room, sipping it, he just shrugs in response (close call, Gau)]

I still -- it's hard, believin' that. The "world" thing.

[With an almost telling exhale, Gau bends over to pick up the dropped spool as Badou pours himself a drink (saves him the trouble of doing so, at least).

Conversation successfully diverted. This time, he cranes his head around to say-]

That most people believe we come from different versions of the same place. I guess it's harder to deny if you're from Japan, since there seems to be so many'a you guys with different backgrounds...

[Nitpicks at dictation aside, Gau leans forward- pure curiosity and no hesitance in the face of Badou's unsure body language.

He puffs out his chest slightly. One could almost mistake it for his famed temper.]

If I was worried about that, I wouldn't have answered your call. I wouldn't fail just because of one night of bad sleep!

[Perhaps a bit of haughtiness behind those words, but it isn't unwarranted.]
